Upload files to a FTP site may cause an error if the file is locked on your system.
  • Details
When uploading files to a FTP site, we sometimes run into issues when we are still using or have open the files that we want to upload to the ftp server.
In this case, we will receive such error like this.

    ---------------------------
    FTP Folder Error
    ---------------------------
An error occurred copying a file to the FTP Server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server.
    Details:
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

If you are uploading a Database such as Access, where when you have the Access program opened, a file is created called a lock file. This lock file has a .ldb file extention appended to it, and is created when you open your database within access. This files is also created when a client on the internet access the file as well.

The error that appears does not mention that the file is locked or in use, instead it thinks that there is a permissions issue instead, this is not correct, but never the less, it is a problem that can be easily fixed.
  • Recreate Issue
    To recreate this issue.
    Open your database in Access
Drag the file into your FTP window that you have open in Winows Explorer.

The error that appears does not mention that the file is locked or in use, instead it thinks that there is a permissions issue instead, this is not correct, but never the less, it is a problem that can be easily fixed.
  • Resolve Issue
To correct this issue so that you can upload the file to your FTP Server location do the following.

(You do not have to close the program used to edit the document that is locked)

In most programs such as Office Access, Word, Excel and other have a feature in the menu that allows you to close the project without having to close the entire application.
Lets face it, when you close out of a Office program it takes forever to reopen the program again.

    Click on [File]
    The choose [Close]

Now, try to upload your file to the FTP server and it "should" go without an issue.
If you still experience this error even after closing the project, go into the folder that the project is located in, and see if you have a lock file associated with the file in question, if it exist, [Delete It] and then try to upload your file again.
