The smphost is using up a lot of memory. If it is not used, then it does not need to be enabled. How can I disabled smphost? - Details
In this article, we will go through how to disable the smphost. When it is not needed, it should not be installed and be running.
To disable this feature is a must if you see it using up a lot of memory. - Recreate Issue
To Recreate this issue.
Right click on the [Taskbar].
Choose [Task Manager]
Look for [smphost]
If it is using over 500mb of memory, and it is not used proceed to Resolve, below. - Resolve Issue
To Resolve this issue.
Right click on the Start Menu.
Choose [Control Panel]
Then choose [Administrative Tools]
Then choose [Serices]
(HINT: When Services is open, right click on its icon on the [Task Bar] and choose to [Pin to [Task Bar]. This will give you quick access to Services in the future.)
Scroll down to [Microsoft Storage Spaces SMP]
Double click (To open) (OR) Right Click and choose [Properties]
Once you have the Properties Dialog open, do the following.
Startup type: [Disable]
Service Status: [Stop] (It might not stop immediately, and may give an error. Make sure that you Diable it first)
Click [Apply]
Click [OK]
Once it has stopped, it will remove itself from memory and from the [Task Manager].
