When you reinstall your computer, and try to access windows updates, to update your system with the most recent updates, you will notice that you are unable to, unless you have already activated your copy of windows. - Details
Windows update site is set up so that you have to authenticate your windows installation. This is to make sure that you are using a Genuine copy of your Microsoft Windows Operating System. This is by default, and it to make sure that you are using an actual purchased product, and not a pirated one.
However, there is times when you are running test installs, that you may have to get your updated before authenticating your OS. In times like this, there is not no sure fire way of gaining access to the actual Windows Update Site, until you authenticate your system.
There is a way, and this is used by default by Microsoft, and that is setting your computer up to do the [Automatic Updates]. This will allow your system to update itself with the most recent updates available.
However, you do have to wait for the system to cycle itself before you are able to see the notification balloon appear down by your clock.
There is a way to force this even to happen. - Recreate Issue
To recreate this issue.
Do not Authenticate or set [Automatic Updates] for your computer.
This will make your system very vulnerable to attacks and will also make your system so that most programs will not run properly. - Resolve Issue
To resolve this issue.
To for Windows Updates to cycle itself, without the long wait, perform the following.
[Option #1]
Click on the [Start] button
Then click on [Run]
Type in the following: wuauclt.exe /detectnow
Now click [Enter]
[Option #2]
(This is my preferred method)
Click on the [Start] button
Then Choose [All Programs]
Then choose [Accessories]
Then click on [Command Prompt]
(If you are going to be used the Command Prompt a lot, I strongly suggest that you drag and drop it into your [Task Bar] to create a [Shortcut]
Now type in: wuauclt.exe /detectnow
Hit [Enter]
Once this is completed, you should see the the [Notification Balloon] appear.Updates are ready for your computer
Click here to download these updates.
Click on it, and choose either [Express] or [Custom]
I personally like to choose [Custom], as I like to see what it is that I am going to be downloading and installing on my machine(s).
This method above should work on all version of Windows from
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.
If it does not work with one of the above listed Operating Systems, please send us a message, and we will update this article with your information, and especially if you are given an error, and are able to either "Write it down" or take a "Screen Shot" of it.
