    When working in SQL Server Management Studio, you might inadvertently hit the wrong keys on the keyboard, of which, will cause your mouse cursor to change from a line to a wide block.

    When working in the SQL Server Management Studio Query Editor, you might inadvertently hit the wrong keys on the keyboard, of which, will cause the mouse cursor to go from a thin line, to a wide block.

  • Recreate Issue
    To recreate this issue.

    Inside of SQL Server Management Studio Query Editor, press the following Keyboard Keys
    FN + Ins (without the +)

    Pressing the above two keys, will change your mouse cursor to a wide block cursor.
  • Resolve Issue
    To resolve this issue.

    Resolution #1:
    Inside of SQL Server Management Studio Query Editor, press the following Keyboard Keys
    FN + Ins (without the +)

    This will change the cursor back to the default cursor.
    Pressing the keys, will change the cursor from thin to wide and vise-versa.

    Resolution #2:
    If resolution #1, does not correct the issue, then try closing out of SQL Server Management Studio. Then re-open Management Studio. This usually reset everything back to normal that once was not working correctly.
