    If the application pool identity settings are left with the default setting, you may experiance the Event ID: 5 error within Event Viewer.
  • Details
    In windows 2003 Server running IIS6 (Internet Information Services version 6) you may experiance the following error, if your Application pool settings is set to the default Network Service.

     
    Event ID: 5 Source Active Server Pages
    Error: The Template Persistent Cache initialization failed for Application Pool 'DefaultAppPool' because of the following error: Could not create a Disk Cache Sub-directory for the Application Pool. The data may have additional error codes..
  • Recreate Issue
    To recreate this issue.
    Leave the default setting of the Application Pool as [Network Service]
    You will notice that you are getting the Event ID: 5 error inside of Event Viewer.
  • Resolve Issue
    To resolve this issue.
    Within IIS
    Right Click on [Application Pool]
    Choose [Properties]
    Choose the [Identity] Tab
    Click [Configurable]

    This will set the IWAM_MACHINE_NAME as the username and the default password. (Leave the password default, do not change, this may cause undesirable issues)

    This should resolve the issue, and you should not experiance no more of the errors.
