This error occurs when editing AVI files in After Effects; make sure the file is in the true AVI format (or another format, as this can happen with other Video Formats as well).
The error that you will receive will be similar to the following:

Recreate IssueThis error will occur if you download a YouTube video and use a program to convert it from the FLV format it is streamed in to AVI.
FLV
FLV files are not good candidates for conversion to AVI or any other media format due to the FLV format's significant lossiness.
Resolve IssueA tested workaround that can be used and works well, and with great results, is the following.
Bring the Video Clip into Sony Vegas and pre-clip to suit your project (or) leave it as is and then render it out as Xvid or DivX or whatever your desired output is.
Once the file is rendered, test it in Windows Media Player WMP, then import it into AE or Adobe Premiere Pro.
