When working in Windows 7, you may experience the system freezing up from time to time.
Issue Details
Windows 7 may have a glitch that will cause your USB-driven devices, such as your keyboard or mouse, to stop working.
Recreate Issue
USB devices that are not properly installed can cause Windows 7 to freeze.
Resolve Issue
If you have a USB keyboard or mouse installed, perform the following actions. This is done while the system is locked due to a Windows freeze.
  1. Unplug the mouse and then plug the USB back up into a spare USB slot. This will reinitialize the mouse and reinstall its drivers. This may resolve the issue, and you should then be able to move your mouse around.
  2. Unplug your keyboard and plug it back into another USB slot.
This will re-initialize the keyboard and install any required drivers without rebooting the system.
These are proven methods for the USB mouse and/or keyboard freeze issue.
This WILL NOT cure all freeze issues you may experience.
If you are experiencing a freeze, then try this first, and then move on to other issues.
