KB IssueWindows 7 may give you an error that the network path was not found, if you are missing the DNS Server's IP Address, in the Properties of your Network Card. Add in the DNS IP Address, and this should resolve this issue.
Issue DetailsWhen trying to join a domain with a Windows 7 machine, you may encounter the following error.
The following error occurred attempting to join the domain
"DOMAIN NAME":
The network path was not found.
Resolve IssueAdding the Domain Server's DNS Server information will allow the computer trying to join the domain to communicate with the Domain Server.
Allowing the computer to then join the domain, as long as all credentials are correct.
The following information will show you how to add the DNS Server IP Address of the Domain Server.
- You must first find out the [Domain Server IP Address]
- ISP DNS Server's IP Address
The 2 above can be obtained by asking your system administrator or technical personnel.
- Go to [Computer]
- Then Right Click on [Network]
- Go to [Properties]
- When the [Network and Sharing Center] opens
Click on [Local Area Connection] - When the [Local Area Connection] dialog opens.
Click on [Properties] - When the [Properties] dialog opens.
Choose either: [Version 6] or [Version 4] of the [Internet Protocol].
(6 is the new, longer IP addresses; this is not for most people. Please ask your System Administrator or Technical Personnel which of these is the correct one to use for your network.) - Either [Double Click] or choose [Properties] for the version you want.
- Once the IP Properties dialog opens, you will need to assign static DNS servers.
If you do not know these, please ask your System Administrator or Technical Personnel for this information.
[DNS Server Settings]- Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.2.7 (This will be the Domain Server's IP Address)
- Alternate DNS Server: 100.100.100.111 (This will be the DNS of the ISP)
[Add more DNS Servers]- Click on [Advanced]
- The click on the [DNS] tab,
- Click on [Add]
And add in as many DNS entries as needed for your network. - Click [OK]
- Then click [OK] again
- Then click [OK] to close our of the [Properties] dialog.
- Then click [Close] to get out of the [Status] Dialog.
