When you try to open a folder in Windows XP, you might receive an error stating that access is denied. Having an Administrator account login, will enable you to access this folder.
Issue Details
When you try to access a folder in Windows XP, you might encounter the following error.
C:\My Folder\FolderName is not accessible.
Access is denied

Recreate Issue
Remove yourself from ownership of a folder.
Resolve Issue
  1. Right-click on the folder.
  2. Choose [Properties]
  3. Choose [Security] Tab
  4. Click [OK] on the warning dialog to take ownership of the folder
  5. Click on the [Advanced] button
  6. Click on the [Owner] tab
  7. Click on [Administrator] account
  8. Click [Apply]
  9. Click yes to take Ownership of the folder.
  10. Then [OK] and then [OK] to close the Properties dialog.
  1. Right-click on the folder again.
  2. Choose [Properties]
  3. Choose [Security] Tab
  4. Click on [Add]
  5. Type in [Administrator]
  6. Click [Check Names]
  7. Choose the Administrator account with [Built-in account] (Usually on the top)
  8. Click [OK], then [OK] again
  9. Give the [Administrator] account [Full Control] by checking the box at the top of the list.
  10. Click [Apply] then [OK]


You should not be able to access the folder's contents.
However, you might have to perform the above action on every folder inside the folder you just took ownership of.
